Home subwoofer not enough power?

I have this home sub: http://cgi.ebay.com/500-Watt-New-Home-Audio-Powered-Subwoofer-12-Inch-PRO_W0QQitemZ380095049043QQihZ025QQcategoryZ3276QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

12inch 500watts…
My problem is i dont think its getting enough power?? when i turn my home system up to about 20(sub line up all the way) it sounds disorted? like as if it cant handle to power? but i doubt it because this is rated 500 and i dont believe my sub line is pushing that?

My receivers a sony 7.1 840watts 120 per channel.. im not sure what is going through the sub line.

i also have a 400watt amp coming today with 4 channels with 100w per channel.

Would i be able to hook this to the amp some how and make it so im getting the amount of watts i need to power this sub some how??

THANKS!!!!

So, you bought a subwoofer by a manufacturer you never hear of, from a company you never heard of, on ebay because it was super cheap, and you’re wondering why it sounds like crap? Probably because it is crap.

There are lots of people out there making junk electronic and audio equipment, putting a popular sounding name on it (like Kirsch instead of Klipsch), selling it for cheap, and claiming that the suggested retail price is many times more than what they’re selling it for.

Never buy speakers without listening to them first – particularly over the internet (ebay or craigslist) – unless you’re familiar with the brand and model, and buying them from a reputable dealer. Particularly when they have a price that is a small fraction of the “manufacturer’s suggested retail price”. You get what you pay for. And, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
