I am in the process of building a working windmill. It is18ft 6inches tall what diameter would the sails be?
The Windmill will power a small fountain. Its design will be of the Dutch type with sails and not blades, it will turm an archamedes screw which will draw water from a sump up to a tank which will be about 9ft from the ground. Gravity will then take the water down a pipe and into the fountain which will be approx. 3 ft. high
Someone said you need the sail 10 feet off the ground. I’ll assume that’s correct, but I’ll correct his mathematics for you:
18ft 6in – 10ft = 8ft 6in radius
diameter=2*radius=2* 8ft 6 in = 17ft.
